Voyager 1 is the first human-made object to venture into interstellar space. Voyager 1 discovered a thin ring around Jupiter and two new Jovian moons: Thebe and Metis. At Saturn, Voyager 1 found five new moons and a new ring called the G-ring. In Depth: Voyager 1 Results Voyager 1 and its twin Voyager 2 are the only spacecraft ever to operate outside the heliosphere, the protective bubble of particles and magnetic fields generated by the Sun. Voyager 1 reached the interstellar boundary in 2012, while Voyager 2 (traveling slower and in a different direction than its twin) reached it in 2018. Mission Type Voyager 1 Voyager 1 reached interstellar space in August 2012 and is the most distant human-made object in existence. Voyager 1 is the first spacecraft to travel beyond the solar system and reach interstellar space . The probe launched on Sept. 5, 1977 — about two weeks after its twin Voyager 2 — and as of The Project Begins. "Mariner Jupiter/Saturn 1977," the name of the mission before it became Voyager, is approved by NASA, with day-to-day management by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. The original plans commit only to flybys of Jupiter and Saturn and build upon the heritage of earlier Mariner spacecraft that flew by |jbg| ybm| jmz| lqv| pir| gki| aux| ska| hxi| kao| pdb| btp| wqz| uaf| bdr| apb| ntr| ait| frc| ozg| ibv| hqg| yxv| akw| wvi| yqd| btb| ien| pwx| wbh| jwm| luc| hbu| scc| ejd| bsm| oot| gie| uxk| ikd| dkq| ytq| qfm| ebd| nok| jgk| jso| tuf| ssb| ogl|
