Toynbee Hall (not named) stands towards the southern end of Commercial Street. Whitechapel was also a place where many different immigrants settled. The Great Famine of Ireland in the 19th century led to many Irish settling in Whitechapel. From 2016-2020, Toynbee Hall underwent a major restoration of its historic hall and estate. But this project has involved much more than just conservation.
